If you are looking for a personal trainer, these are the fantastic traits they must have to support you in making a wise decision.
- They are passionate about what they do. Many trainers become personal trainers because it is what they are good at. This may not be the most important thing to you because they may provide you results, but there will be no relationship built because the trainer will just look for the next client and leave you. That is a bit dramatic, but you get the point.
- They listen to you. Just like everything else in life, when you are in a situation of needing a service, you would want them to listen to you and make sure that you are heard. If they look at you and not let you speak anymore because they “already know” what they need to do, they have their own agenda. There is a difference between listening to your needs and not letting you speak because they’ve heard it all before.
- They reassure your goals. As you train with your trainer, he or she should check in on you to make sure that they are meeting your needs and reassure you that they know what your goals are.
- They give more than what is asked of them. Many personal trainers will do what is said. That is not a bad thing, but for the price that you pay, you would expect a lot from them!
- They make you feel safe and don’t pressure you to do something you are uncomfortable with. Some trainers can possibly put you in a position where you are prone to injury. The human body is very strong, and yet can be so delicate. Consult your doctor first before training with a personal trainer if you are not sure if you have any health issues or injuries.
- They make you feel like you are the most important person in the room. Besides listening, personal trainers should give you 100% of their time. Their time with you may only be 30 minutes, but they should maximize those 30 minutes with you and really create an amazing experience.
- They are energetic. Can you imagine getting trained by someone who lacks the energy for it? Your trainer should set the tone of how you act and feel when you are training. Lifting requires a lot of energy, and if the energy from your trainer is low, then inevitably, your energy levels will be low as well.
- They have a structure to get you your results. They have a guided structure to help you reach your fitness goals. Some trainers will do what their boss told them to say or do instead of sharing with you what exactly it is that they are going to do.
- They don’t hold back answers to questions that you have for them. Some trainers will hold back saying or sharing too much information so they can upsell you. A trainer who is genuinely there to help you will share all the information they know so they can help you achieve your results faster.
- They are committed to your results. If you are having a hard time losing weight, your trainer should take all the time and energy to revise your plan over and over again until you get it right.
There are many other traits that personal trainers should have, but these are the best traits for your trainer to have. If you want results, find a trainer who reflects who and what you are looking for.
