You have these big goals in life but you have a hard time sticking to them.
You have plans and ideas that you know can add value to the world, but you just can’t start.
Maybe you’re lazy?
Maybe you don’t have the right resources?
There are too many things that get in the way, and you just can’t find the time to make it happen.
Or, just maybe, you are not clear on why you want to do it.
There are so many books on the power of your why.
If you are setting goals and you don’t know why you are doing it, then there is a big chance you won’t achieve it.
Reasons such as, “because my mom said so”, or “because I was told to” will put you in a vulnerable position.
Most people get motivated to complete something because it is much bigger than them. If you are going to college to become a doctor and you are doing it because your parents said so can only take you so far.
If you are not passionate about why you are committed to something, you will get distracted by a lot of “shiny objects” in your life.
When you are not clear on your wh8y, you will be easily distracted by others and allow yourself to get consumed into things that are not pulling you towards your goals.
Your why must be so important, that you will work relentlessly at it.
Your why should make you feel excited and it should be pulling you towards your goals.
How to find your Why
If you don’t know how to find your “why”, start by asking yourself a few powerful questions that can help you get another step closer to why you want to achieve your goals.
These are questions that I asked myself that helped me see why I am so committed to my goals. Why I wake up at 4am every day. Why I have created so much in my life in the last 3 months than the last 3 years.
When I first started creating my goals and asking myself why I wanted it, I didn’t know why it wasn’t driving me, inspiring me, or motivating me.
I found that I was doing things because I only did things when I got rewarded. I also did things so that I can look like a good person.
Those reasons were so selfish and did not at all align with my vision and my goals.
One day, I was listening to a Tony Robbins podcast and he said, “If you don’t know what you want and why, ask yourself what you don’t want and take the opposite.”
This hit me.
I wrote down everything I didn’t want and I was able to find what I wanted.
I started with things like, “I don’t want to be broke. I don’t want to be fat. I don’t want to be alone. Etc.”
Then, it started to spark motivation in me to create a life worth living.
Suddenly, I realized that the why that was driving me was coming from making sure what I don’t want never happens.
If I don’t want to be broke, I knew that it was up to me to do something about it.
I knew I was responsible for it. I did not want to walk around in life complaining about why I didn’t achieve my goals in life.
I saw a post a few years ago that said, “Write down 50 reasons why you want to achieve such a big goal then cross out reasons that you felt like was not strong enough to keep you motivated and you will end up with the top 3.”
Another post I found was to ask yourself why you want the goal. Then, when you answer why, ask why again, then again, then again, then again, until you find yourself crying.
It is extremely powerful to find the reason why that makes you so emotional.
I found that when I write in my journal for all the things that I am grateful for, I told myself that I want to keep this feeling of love for others. I want to create this same feeling in other people’s lives.
One thing you need to understand is that you are not held hostage by your vision. Things change, your environment changes, things will come up for you that will direct you to something else. That is why whatever you do has to be very important to you.
I am committed to creating an environment of love, integrity, honesty, vulnerability, power, happiness, and gratitude.
That is my vision for the world.
Why?
Because there is too much hate going on and I choose to love. I choose to create love and spark the love for others so that they can continue the legacy I have created in my life.
I choose to live that way.
“If I die on the way to my vision in life, that’s okay because most people don’t live theirs.”
